Constantia is one of the most beautiful wine regions in Cape Town, and it’s always a pleasure sharing it with visitors from around the world. On this particular day, I hosted a lovely couple visiting from Austin, Texas, who wanted to explore the historic Constantia Valley, taste some great wines, and enjoy the incredible scenery that makes this region so special.

Located just about 20 minutes from Cape Town, Constantia is the oldest wine region in South Africa and offers a perfect combination of historic estates, excellent restaurants, and spectacular vineyard views.

Starting the Day at Buitenverwachting

We started the day at Buitenverwachting, a beautiful wine estate tucked away in the Constantia Valley. The relaxed atmosphere and scenic surroundings make it a great place to begin a wine tour.

With vineyards and mountain views all around, it’s the perfect setting to ease into the day while enjoying some excellent wines.

Wine & Chocolate Pairing at Groot Constantia

Our next stop was Groot Constantia, South Africa’s oldest wine estate, founded in 1685. The estate is famous not only for its wines but also for its rich history and classic Cape Dutch architecture.

Here we enjoyed one of the estate’s most popular tasting experiences — a wine and chocolate pairing. Carefully selected wines are paired with handcrafted chocolates, creating a unique and memorable tasting.

Lunch at Bistro 1682 at Steenberg

After the morning tastings, we headed to Bistro 1682 at Steenberg for lunch. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Constantia Valley, offering fantastic food and a beautiful setting.

With views over the vineyards and surrounding mountains, it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy a great meal paired with Steenberg’s wines.

Finishing the Day at Beau Constantia

To finish the tour, we visited Beau Constantia, which offers some of the most spectacular views in the valley.

Perched high on the mountainside, the estate overlooks vineyards stretching toward False Bay and Cape Town in the distance. It’s always a breathtaking place to end a wine tour.

Why Constantia Is Such a Special Wine Region

Constantia offers a unique wine experience because it combines history, world-class wines, beautiful scenery, and excellent restaurants — all just a short drive from Cape Town.

Every wine tour I offer is private and customized, allowing guests to explore the region at their own pace while visiting a mix of historic estates and boutique wineries.

Planning Your Own Constantia Wine Tour

If you’re visiting Cape Town and would like to explore the Constantia wine region, I offer private wine tours tailored to your interests.

Whether you’re interested in historic estates, boutique wineries, food and wine pairings, or simply enjoying the incredible vineyard views, I can create a personalized wine tour experience for your visit.
