One of the most popular experiences for visitors to Cape Town is a Cape Peninsula tour, and it’s easy to see why. This spectacular journey combines dramatic ocean views, wildlife encounters, and some of the most beautiful coastal drives in the world.
Recently I took a couple visiting from the UK on a private tour around the Cape Peninsula, exploring some of the most iconic highlights of the region.
Boulders Beach – Meeting the African Penguins

Our day started with a visit to Boulders Beach, home to a famous colony of African penguins. Walking along the wooden boardwalks gives visitors a chance to observe these charming birds up close while protecting their natural habitat.
It’s always a special moment seeing penguins in the wild, and this colony is one of the only places in the world where you can easily observe them along a beautiful coastline.
Cape Point – Dramatic Cliffs and Ocean Views

Next we continued along the Cape Peninsula to Cape Point, located within the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.
This rugged landscape of towering cliffs and endless ocean views is one of the most breathtaking places in South Africa. Standing at the viewpoint near the lighthouse, you can really appreciate the scale of the coastline and the power of the Atlantic Ocean below.
Lunch at Cape Point Vineyards

After exploring Cape Point, we stopped for a relaxing lunch at Cape Point Vineyards, one of my favourite spots on the peninsula.
The views here are incredible, overlooking vineyards, a tranquil dam, and the ocean stretching out toward Noordhoek Beach. It’s the perfect place to enjoy great food and wine while taking in the scenery.
Chapman’s Peak Drive – One of the World’s Most Scenic Roads

No Cape Peninsula tour is complete without driving along Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the most spectacular coastal roads in the world.
With dramatic cliffs on one side and the deep blue ocean on the other, the views here are simply unforgettable. It’s always a highlight of the tour and a perfect spot for photos.
Seals at Kalk Bay
On the way back to Cape Town, we made a quick stop at Kalk Bay Harbour, where playful seals can often be seen relaxing near the fishing boats.
It’s a charming coastal village and a great final stop before returning to the city.
Experience the Cape Peninsula for Yourself
A Cape Peninsula tour offers an incredible mix of wildlife, dramatic landscapes, and unforgettable scenery. From penguins at Boulders Beach to the iconic views along Chapman’s Peak Drive, it’s truly one of the highlights of visiting Cape Town.
